The yummy former Lost actor, who plays Damon Salvator in The Vampire Diaries, was in direct competition with Pattinson’s Edward Cullen from Twilight in a battle of the vamps.

Ian had previously claimed: “that Pattinson guy will end up kicking my butt, however thanks for taking the time, that’s really cool:)” on Twitter.

However, Somerhalder’s clear blue eyes were all that was needed to keep RPattz off the top spot of Entertainment weekly’s poll.

“Every one is calling me a sexy beast on set:)” Ian wrote upon hearing the news.

The Twilight actor was shooting a scene for new movie Water For Elephants, in which he had to ride on one of the animals back.

However, the confused elephant named Rosie got her tricks mixed up, and rather than do what the script said, she decided to improvise – and nearly caused billions of girls to lose the love of their life in the process!

“The script called for the elephant to step forward while swinging her trunk from side to side, but Rosie got her signals mixed up,” a source told the National Enquirer.

“Instead, she sat down on her big butt, lifted her front legs — then rolled over. Before anyone could react, Robert slid right down the elephant’s back.

“It could have been a disaster if she’d rolled over on him — but he got lucky, landing face first in a pile of dirt and mud. He was filthy, but unharmed.

“Everyone on the set cracked up — especially Reese [Witherspoon], who was laughing so hard she couldn’t catch her breath.”

“I’m just glad she didn’t roll on top of me,” RPattz is quoted as saying.

This isn’t the first time Pattinson’s had a run in with an elephant – in February he revealed that one had picked him up and put him in it’s mouth. He said it was “the best day of my life”!

The Twilight actress has apparently been feeling low since finishing Eclipse, and isn’t coping well with being the constant focus of media attention.

“All Kristen wants is not to be judged anymore,” a source revealed. “She can’t handle all of this. She refused to go to this year’s Teen Choice Awards.

“She’s filming On The Road in Montreal and could have gone, but didn’t want to have to face the media spotlight yet again, with questions about her relationship with Rob.

“Kristen hates awards shows. She’s tripped up onstage before and is always called shy and unsexy by pundits,” explained the mole.

“Rob can relate to the pressure Kristen’s under, so he flew immediately to Canada to be with her. He knew that she was going through a hard time. He rushed up to Montreal to boost her spirits.

“They’ve made a pact not to let their crazy schedules affect their relationship, and this was one of those times where he put their relationship first.

“[Kristen] has been at breaking point ever since they finished filming Eclipse. When they were in Vancouver, they were heavily guarded on set and then went home to her and Rob’s joined suites at the the Sheraton Wall Center Hotel. They were always together, and they had their little hideout, where they could be a couple alone.

“Lately, Kristen’s been ripped apart by the media for looking bored, when in fact she’s just shy. She feels she can’t do anything without being criticized.”

According to TMZ, the Twilight stars and real life lovers were traveling in a car having just left Los Angeles International Airport – when they noticed several cars packed with paparazzi weaving in and out of traffic to follow them.

The couple are then said to have pulled into a police station to ask for assistance, and were helped by officers to escape through a back exit without the photographers seeing them.

Last week, any previous dismissal by RPattz and Kristen that they were dating went out of the window, when they were photographed kissing outside a Montreal hotel.

The 24-year-old Twilight star was named the number one hunk, with co-star Taylor Lautner at number two, and gorgeous Vampire Diaries mega-hottie Ian Somerhalder (aka Damon Salvatore) at number three.

In fourth and fifth place were two more Twilight favourites – with Xavier Samuel and Kellan Lutz making up the top five.

I think it’s safe to say that vampires are considered sexy!

Despite months of trying to keep their relationship secret and coyly avoiding answering any questions on the subject, R-Pattz and Kristen didn’t seem to be trying to hide anything when they were caught on camera smooching outside a hotel in Montreal.

The photographs – which appeared exclusively on Celebuzz.com – are the first real proof that the Twilight stars are a couple, with the photographer telling the website:

“They left their hotel around 8:15, and they hopped in a van taxi and they kind of just got out … and during that 25 seconds, they were just making out and Tom Sturridge was standing there just looking … I’ve been chasing Twilight for the last year-and-a-half. I’ve been waiting for this shot for a long time.”

I think we’ve all been waiting for this for a long time!

The actor – who plays love rival Edward Cullen in the franchise – says Edward’s age difference makes a relationship with a 17-year-old girl difficult to work.

“Their relationship is so much easier, Bella and Jacob, because he’s just a normal kid,” said RPattz.

“Edward’s got to remember, or learn, how to be a normal 17-year-old, because he’s never bothered.

“The whole thing is [Edward] having to accept the consequences of [being with Bella], which means catching up to the same pace of every other

17-year-old in the contemporary world, emotionally and intellectually and everything, and realising he’s quite a long way behind.”

Eclipse hits movie thearters on June 30th.

According to a recent report, the sexy Twilight star likes to buy his underwear from UK granny’s favourite Marks & Spencers store – as it gives his genitals more support while he’s working.

“Marks and Spencer’s tighty whities are Robert brand of choice,” a source told PopEater.

“When doing all his stunts, Robert likes to feel down below is all in place and not flopping around. It’s one less thing that he has to worry about.

“Robert insists on a fresh pair of underwear ever day.”

RPattz recently revealed being naked for movies makes him feel like throwing up.

The Twilight hunk admits he couldn’t take his part seriously during fight scenes with Taylor Lautner because of his clothing, but says he felt more comfortable while shooting upcoming Eclipse.

“Normally I just feel so silly. In New Moon, I remember starting the fight with Taylor at the end. I felt like such a moron,” said RPattz. “You’re always wearing skinny jeans, a little blazer and a kind of woolen sweater and trying to act like you’re tough.

“You just know it’s not going to happen. For some reason, I felt a lot more comfortable

The 24-year-old British Twilight hunk isn’t keen to strip off for the camera ever again – as he claims during shooting his naked scenes for 2008 movie Little Ashes – having an audience of camera-men made him heave.

“They give you a little robe and the moment where you have to take it off, you want to throw up and your whole body starts failing,” Pattinson explains.

“I was doing this thing where I was refusing to look at anyone and just between each take you’d be sitting there convulsing.

“And then, suddenly, I briefly turned around for one second and saw that there were six or seven guys in the room.”
